Just last week, at their World Refugee Day celebration, our own Sambo Ly, Director of the 太阳城博彩mont Wellness Refugee Health Screening Clinic was recognized by the 太阳城博彩 Bay Refugee Forum for her hard work and dedication to the care of refugees.

The refugee clinic is the only state approved site to provide health screening to new arrivals in Alameda County. Funded by the California Department of Public Health, Refugee Section, it has been in operation since 1983. As Director, Sambo manages the clinic which provides comprehensive health screenings, case management on communicable diseases, behavioral health care, medi-cal assistance, medication assistance, vaccinations, interpreter services, HIV services, and referrals to other community providers including Children’s Hospital in Oakland. The clinic also has a civil surgeon certified by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to provide vaccinations for eligible individuals who are seeking permanent resident status.

With an expected growth rate of 20% in the next year, the clinic currently serves (annually) 400-500 refugees, aslyees, parolees, and other new arrivals from such areas as Afghanistan, Ethiopia, and Syria. Of those that visit the clinic 95% make 太阳城博彩mont Wellness their primary care health home.

In attendance at the event was CA State Assembly member Rob Bonta, Alameda County Board Supervisor Wilma Chan, Sysvanh Kabkeo, Chief of the CA Refugee Programs Bureau, Bowa Tucker, ORR Senior Analyst for the Western Region (CA, HI, AZ, and NV), our own County Refugee Coordinator, Sadaf Siddiq Pirzada, and over twenty other agencies.
